New illustrations by Livia Cives!

We're excited to share these 3 new illustrations that Livia Cives recently completed. Livia is from Rome, Italy, where she lives and works, and she has definitely been keeping herself busy creating new images this summer!

This first piece is titled "Holidays", and we love the vintage summery feel it has:

For "Layers", Livia was inspired to illustrate layers from an uncommon point of view:

And this third piece, "Be Different", is based on the idea of that one fish who doesn't take the bait:

Jen Lobo's illustrated nebulae

Jen Lobo recently worked on series of paintings based on space, and here are a few pieces that were specifically inspired by nebulae.  Here is Jen's own description of her inspiration:

"I had been reading about space and the Hubble Telescope and star births and I absolutely fell in love with nebulae being described as star nurseries. I love the notion of these bright little bursts of light being born out of dust. The names of the nebulae were just begging to be illustrated. Space is such a wealth of inspiration, sometimes I'll read theories, I remember once I was reading about black holes and I get to a point where my brain literally cannot compute. The technical reasons for these magical occurrences are so complex. I just am not capable of grasping some of these concepts, but then the names harken back to ancient theories of the stars and gods. It's almost childlike."

Bob Dob illustrates for Playboy magazine

Bob Dob recently did this illustration for Playboy magazine, for a piece titled "Meat the Future, The laboratory race to create the next great meal". The article mentions that researchers in Japan are trying to clone "Yasufuku, a steer renowned for siring more than 40,000 wagyu cattle, the breed used for Japan's Kobe beef" - hence all of those cows in the illo!

Info graphics!

We love info graphics!  They are becoming more and more a part of our daily lives, and they are such a creative way to show what might otherwise be pretty dry and boring information.  Here is a look at some info graphic projects that our illustrators, Johnny Kotzé and Lucie Rice, recently worked on (click images for a closer look at these data-filled illustrations!) :

Charles Glaubitz illustrates for Sony PlayStation

Charles Glaubitz was recently commissioned by 180 Amsterdam to create this illustration for a Brand Book for their client Sony PlayStation.  They were looking to bring to the life the new Brand mantra, "The World Is In Play", and in doing so they came up with six brand pillars that define their brand personality.  Charles was 1 of 6 artists who were commissioned for the project, and he was asked to base his illustration on the brand pillar, "Fearless".  Here's what he came up with:

Shangri-La - Chris Buzelli

Wonderful new illustration by Chris Buzelli

From his own blog: The tiny country of Bhutan created the concept of Gross National Happiness (GNH) as a Buddhist-inspired alternative to Gross National Product (GNP). While the people of Bhutan have embraced the idea of GNH, the Bhutanese government has oppressed and discriminated against the minority Nepalese population. This once large minority population in which some have lived in Bhutan for generations and consider themselve Bhutanese are discriminated harshly because of their Hindu religion, language and cultural differences. Many of these people are now living as refuges in other countries because of the attempt to force conformity resulting in harsh torture and imprisonment... read more
