Santiago Uceda - AI-AP International Motion Awards

We recently learned that Santiago Uceda was selected as a winner in the first annual American Illustration - American Photography (AI-AP) International Motion Art Awards (IMAA).  Santiago's winning entry was a commercial that he worked on for Oregon State University's economic impact, and his piece was 1 of only 46 that were selected in this inaugural IMAA juried competition, which "celebrates photographers, illustrators, and designers who make their work move in all media".  Congratulations, Santiago!

Santiago Uceda painting for Put A Bird In It

Santiago Uceda used his unique style to decorate this birdhouse for an upcoming benefit show in Portland, Oregon.  The event is called "Put A Bird In It", and participants were asked to build and paint their own birdhouse.  All of the birdhouses will be auctioned off during Portland Design Week, and the proceeds will go toward music and art programs in Portland public schools.

Santiago Uceda's portraiture

Here is a recent portrait that Santiago Uceda did of Oregon congressman Peter DeFazio.  Santiago describes the style as a hybrid of his older style and what he's doing now.  In Santiago's own words, "The way I draw portraits now is not that different from the way I did them before; the difference would be that DeFazio is not as painterly, it does have texture, but has more of a collage approach, the older pieces feel more like paintings."  Below is the DeFazio portrait, along with a few older pieces for comparison.  Whether old or new, we think Santiago's style of portraiture is super cool!

Santiago Uceda illustrates OSU FileShip

Santiago Uceda created this illustration for a file sharing web application that is being developed by the Oregon State University. This was another opportunity for Santiago to do a space-themed illustration, which he really enjoys whenever he gets the chance. Santiago Uceda - 2012 Oregon State University TV Spot

Santiago Uceda's work is seen in the latest TV spot for Oregon State University, where he created all of the illustration and, helped with two other artists, animation. He was also the lead creative on the project, did all the story boards, animatic and led the brainstorming sessions.

From his own words:
"We have a small team so we end up taking on multiple roles that would normally be done by several Creatives at an agency. It was all done in-house (script, voice over) except for music which was licensed from a local band."

Santiago Uceda wins awards for Oregon State University animations

Santiago Uceda and his team at Oregon State University won the gold in the CASE Awards for their TV spots - Santiago co-directed the spots, did all of the illustration and tackled the animation process with the help of his team.  CASE is the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, and for those in academia it's the equivalent of what Communication Arts or the Print annual are for us creatives  :)

Santiago Uceda original artwork for Artcrank

Santiago Uceda created this illustration for Artcrank, a "show of bicycle-inspired poster artwork that introduces people to talented local artists and sends them home with affordable, original works of art." The art will be going on a 10-city roadshow where 30 screen prints of each art piece will be sold.
The cities include: London, Interbike, Portland, San Francisco, Minneapolis, St. Louis, Des Moines, and Bend.

Bikes are the world’s most fun, accessible way to get around. Posters are the world’s most fun, accessible art form. ARTCRANK™ brings them together.

ARTCRANK is a show of bicycle-inspired poster artwork that introduces people to talented local artists and sends them home with affordable, original works of art. Every ARTCRANK show features posters created by local artists from the host city. Admission is always free, and posters are priced to let everybody take home at least one.

ARTCRANK began in Minneapolis in 2007, and has expanded to Denver, St. Louis, Portland, San Francisco, Des Moines and Bend. In September 2010, we held our first international show in London. Santiago Uceda's illustration collaboration project

Santiago Uceda recently told us about a sketchbook collaboration project he's been working on with artist, Jon MacNair.  A few months ago Santiago and Jon came up with the idea of trading sketchbooks, and ever since then they've been simultaneously drawing and painting in each of them.  Such a cool and inspiring idea!  Here are a few samples of what they've done so far...and you can read more about the project in Santiago's own words on his blog.
